In the next 5 months, there will be a new independent country presumably, named Southern Sudan. Now, congratulations to them and may they live in peace after this. Now, for the history of the conflict that lead to the separation of the country can be found here.
Now, what I strongly feel as a sense of injustice here is that, as long as i can remember, these are the countries that had formed in my lifetime; Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan (Former Soviet in Asia) in the early 90s, Ukraine, Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus (Former Soviet in Europe) in the early 90s as well, Slovakia ( separated from the former Czechoslovakia) in the 94/95 in think?, Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Bosnia- Herzegovina in the mid 90s, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo just recently. Closer to home we got East Timor in the mid 2000s. This is all i can remember, shucks, i cant remember Vietnam unification.
Now, the formation of South Sudan is similar to East Timor. Civil War between Christians and Muslims and then, come international intervention, and the Christians side was separated, given independence and hailed as the victor. Now, where the international intervention for southern Thailand, Xinjiang, Tibet, Kashmir, Palestine, Dagestan, to name a few..as if the intervention will come to places that bears importance to the benefactor.call me naive but this is injustice. hiding behind the mask of democracy.
